How to connect a drone DJI to a smartphone?
It’s very simple to do this, it’s enough to perform only 5 simple actions. The connection algorithm consists of the following steps:
- Download the DJI Fly app;
- Open the DJI Fly app;
- Connect to the remote;
- Turn on the drone;
- Control the drone with your smartphone.

Downloading and installing the app
To control the DJI drone, you will need the DJI Fly app. First download it to the App Store if you have an iPhone. If the phone is on Android, you can download it from the Play Market. Or on the official website of the drone manufacturer.
Find the model of your drone on the website and click the “Download” button. This will lead to a link where you can download the app. Complete the installation. Open the app and accept the terms.
The application will ask you to log in. If you already have a DJI account, you can log in using your data. If you don’t have an account yet, then create one. After logging in, you will be taken to the start screen.
Make sure you have enabled Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on your smartphone. Click on the “Connection Guide” in the lower right corner to connect the drone. Various drone models will appear on the screen. Scroll until you find your type of drone.
How do I connect a DJI drone to a remote control?
Place your smartphone in the remote control holder. Using the supplied RC cable, you can establish a connection between the remote control and the smartphone. You can use Lightning cable for iPhone and USB-C cable for Android phones.
In the app, a short animation will explain how to connect this cable. Turn on the remote by briefly pressing the on/off button once and holding it a second time. Now the remote and the smartphone are connected.
Turning on the drone and controlling
Grab your drone and turn your arms around. Remove the protective cover of the suspension and insert the battery into the compartment. Turn on the drone. The location of the on/off button depends on the model of the drone.
Video instruction in the app indicates this for each drone. The drone will be turned on as soon as you hear the launch beep. And also the indicators next to the on/off button will light up. The remote will now connect to the drone.
As soon as the connection between the remote and the drone is established, the application will switch to the camera view. Now on the smartphone screen you will see the image from your drone’s camera. That’s it! You are ready to fly.
The drone is not connected if there is no image on the screen. In the upper left corner there will be a notification saying “The drone is not connected”. Then reconnect using the Connection Guide.
